Let's Make Art

Sometimes we get stuck in thinking that “good” art is defined by how accurately we can render something. But that is not art. At least, that is such a narrow definition of what art can be. When I saw a Monet painting for the very first time, I *felt* it. It resonated within me, I couldn't believe the energy and movement that was so obvious up close but as you backed away further and further from the painting, it softened into something else completely. What a life-changing lesson! That we can capture a moment of time with gestural movement, imperfect lines, and bold uses of color. That art can capture what it is to *experience* something, (a sunset, or a water reflection) instead of a mere depiction of it. It helped me realize that you can either paint in nouns or verbs, and Monet paints in verbs.
In this Monet digital course, I am going to break down how to approach painting in an impressionistic style. By stealing tools and techniques from one of the greats and recreating his work, learning his processes, and the limitations he experienced which led to his signature style - we will have a greater understanding of who we are artists, and who we want to be.
I am honored (and a bit nervous) to be your guide as we work through some of the most recognizable paintings in art history - but there is no one I would rather be experiencing this creative endeavor with.
