Let's Make Art Matter for Katie- May 2019
Share
Our May Lettering Let's Make Art Matter Postcard goes to Katie from Massachusetts, who has a birthday coming up!
Katie was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 13. While she does well in school academically, Katie struggles to make and keep friends and one of the most important things for teenagers is the social world around them. For her 16th birthday on June 20th, Katie's mom would love to see her daughter's surprise and delight if she were to receive some happy mail from all of us.

If you would like to send Katie a postcard, a stamped postcard is included in the Spring Lettering Subscription Box.
If you are not subscribed, but would still like to send Katie a birthday greeting, please email hello@letsmakeart.com for the address.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to leave a comment here to again thank everyone for their kindness in sending Katie cards two years ago. She recently turned 18, and while redoing her room, we took out the many postcards sent and looked through them. Katie still struggles socially, and with her mental health, and this box of cards reminded her just how important she is. I stumbled upon this webpage (I was surprised but humbled that it is still up!) while looking for a Christmas gift for my mom here. It brought me to tears thinking back to the kindness this community shared on my daughter’s 16th birthday. That extra love carried her through the past two years. THANK YOU!
Katie, my son (13) also has high functioning Autism since he was 3. I totally understand your challenges with making and keeping friends. I watch my son go through the same thing and it breaks my heart. I wish everyone would stop focusing on the “normall” things and really look at the beauty and amazing things that people with Autism can show us. The way you see things is so much more beautiful than I ever could. The gifts you give are more precious than anything tangible I could ever receive.
