Let's Make Art Matter for Emma- November 2019
Share
Emma was 8 years old when she was diagnosed last January with a very rare and inoperable brain tumor called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG. The weekend before receiving this news, she was having a fun time playing with friends, playing in the snow, and wrestling with her brothers. That Sunday, she got a headache and started having flu-like symptoms. By Wednesday, she was rushed into surgery to reduce the swelling on her brain. Throughout her battle, Emma endured multiple surgeries but never let it dim her sweet spirit.
An avid animal lover who dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, Emma was a fighter. This year she requested no gifts for her birthday but instead asked for donations to local animal shelters. In August, Emma and her parents started a non-profit organization to help the animals she loved so much. To date, they have helped provide assistance to Police K9 units and no-kill animal shelters. To learn more about their mission, check out their website at https://www.emmalovesdogs.org/.
Before Emma's passing in the third week of November, family and friends asked that pictures of animals, specifically dogs, be sent to her to help lift her spirits. The request was answered with a flood of love from all around the world. As her battle has ended, we encourage you to not only make art matter for her family during this hard time, but to do what Emma would do and make a difference at your own local animal shelter.
