A Letter From Kolbie
The scariest part about making art is the perpetual fear that you're doing it wrong. Believe me when I tell you -- that fear is not exclusive to beginners! I worry that I'm "doing it wrong" pretty much every day, and I make art for a living. The trick is embracing that fear and channeling it into curiosity. Let's use "what if" not as a reason to stop, but a reason to keep going anyway. What if, actually, making a mess is an excellent use of time? What if you don't have to be perfect to find joy and wonder in the process? With art, the magical "what if’s" are endless, and I'm delighted to be on this creative journey with you. Happy painting!

Learn 5 Ways to Turn Your Reference Photos
Into Creative landscapes

Project 1
Simplify
Some images have complex and challenging details that can be simplified to capture the essence of what you're trying to paint. Don't feel you have to paint every cloud or tree branch! In this project, you will learn to simplify a reference photo and focus on elements that are most important to include in your landscape.

Project 2
Combine
You've found the perfect sky in one image, the most majestic mountain in another and a peaceful field in a third. In this lesson, you'll learn to combine your favorite parts of each reference image and paint the exact landscape of your dreams!

Project 3
Enhance
Some photos are breathtaking on their own, but you still have an idea that would enhance the composition. In this lesson, you will learn how to make smart choices that enhance even the most stunning evening sky.

Project 4
Experiment
We are all creative, and this lesson highlights outside of the box ideas that turn your average reference photo into something fun and unexpected! Not only will you use watercolor, but Kolbie also will play with watercolor pencils - experiment away!

Project 5
Illustrate
There are special memories that live forever in your mind but were not captured in a picture. Using all the techniques from this course's previous lessons, you will learn to capture the feeling from those memories and articulate them beautifully on paper.
