Meet Danison Fronda
Our new Lettering guest artist!
You may have seen Danison around in our Let's Make Art Facebook groups, or you may have even heard of him when we shout him out during lives. But, if you don't know who he is, Danison is a LlaMA just like you! He has been an active member of our Let's Make Art community since 2018 when we first introduced Hand Lettering with Nicole Miyuki. He even wrote a guest blog post for us back in September 2020—check out his bonus project here! After discovering Nicole's book "By Hand", he came to know Let's Make Art once she joined our team and continued lettering ever since. Nicole moved on to create a Kids Art Box in July of 2020 (check it out here!), and we are SO excited to announce that our new guest artist Danison Fronda is picking up the pen and releasing not one, but two new lettering boxes!
Danison's goal with these new projects is to take away the intimidation and fear factors when it comes to lettering. He is breaking down different lettering styles to help you find a style that best fits you and change it up to make it your own! It's all about learning something new together.

We came up with a few questions to ask Danison so you can get to know him better! Do you have anything in common?
LET'S START OUT EASY. WHO IS DANISON FRONDA?
Danison Fronda is a Filipino American Lettering Artist originally from New Jersey, but now resides in sunny Florida. He officially started his lettering journey in 2018 when he accepted the daunting task of hand-lettering invitations and creating custom stationery and signage for his DIY wedding. Along the way, he realized his true passion for teaching modern hand lettering and doing wedding calligraphy. Known for his bubbly and uplifting personality, you will quickly find that he embraces imperfections, encourages individuality, and advocates for continuous learning. His goal is to help each and every aspiring creative get rid of the ‘perfectionism’ mindset and to find a lettering style that they can make their own!
YOU CAN ONLY PICK 3 TOOLS TO CREATE A PIECE OF ART. WHAT DO YOU PICK?
I would definitely have to choose a Tombow Dual Brush Pen, a Round 4 paint brush, and probably a Micron pen. I use these in almost all the art that I create, and they haven't let me down yet!
WHAT IS YOUR DOG'S NAME?
I have a yellow lab named Riley. She loves playing catch, chewing on bones, and saying hello to every human she passes! Oh, and she'll love you forever if you give her a good belly rub!
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A DAY OFF?
I like doing a lot of things, but my favorite thing to do on a day off is play volleyball. We have a sand volleyball court in our neighborhood where we play with our close friends and neighbors. And if I'm being honest, volleyball is the only sport I actually claim to be great at! It was the only sport in high school where I wasn't picked last. Anyway, once we're all tuckered out from hours of playing, we'll go to the pool to relax with some food and drinky-poos.
WHAT'S YOUR GO-TO GUILTY PLEASURE?
Shopping. I mean, who doesn't like buying art supplies? And cute clothes, new furniture for the house, plants... and dog toys... or fun gadgets... I think you get my point. I like to indulge a little too much into buying things that I 'want' versus what I 'need'. In my defense, I do budget my spending, but I like to give myself a pretty nice budget.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE LET'S MAKE ART PROJECT?
It has to be the Monochrome Mountains watercolor project. This was my first introduction to watercolor and my first Let's Make Art project. First off, I absolutely love it because you only need one color to do the project. Secondly, you learn a lot about different water-to-paint ratios, a simple way to paint trees, and even about values relating to atmospheric perspective. Lastly, I'm a sucker for mountainscapes.
WHAT SONG ALWAYS GETS YOU ON THE DANCE FLOOR?
Easy. "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire. Line dancing is big in the Filipino culture, and we have a line dance to this song. This was the first line dance I learned as a kiddo, and you will always find me trying to teach people the moves when this song comes on. If no one joins me, don't worry. I'll just be giving the performance of my life.
WHAT'S A CAREER HIGHLIGHT YOU'RE MOST PROUD OF?
Honestly, it's working with Let's Make Art. This company's purpose and mission resonates with me at my very core, and it's so great to be a part of it. I feel very thankful to be able to give back to this community that has done so much for me as an artist.
DO YOU LIVE BY ANY PIECE OF ADVICE OR MOTTO?
I've always had a personal motto of "Do your best and be kind." This has two parts to it. First, I always remind myself to always give my all in anything I do. If I know in my heart that I did my best and regardless of failure, I won't regret it and think, "I could've done more, and didn't." Secondly, treat everyone with kindness because, at the end of the day, we all want to be treated kindly and be loved.
Danison Fronda Interview
"You can see people's personalities in lettering, and lettering is such a powerful thing. Words are very powerful, and that's why I think I love lettering so much. ...When people get to really put themselves in their lettering, it's just magic and that's my favorite part about it."
Danison Fronda has carefully created two separate boxes to teach you all sorts of different lettering styles. His first box, Rainbow Script, releases June 22nd and will focus on different script styles of lettering. His second box, Rainbow Block Lettering, will be released later this year!
Circling back to the girl that inspired us all, Danison meets with hand lettering artist and former Let's Make Art Lettering Box artist Nicole Miyuki over video chat to discuss all things lettering and the importance behind it all.

I was so excited to get this lettering box for my birthday! I’m just curious, are there any videos with Danison working through the projects in the box? I can’t seem to find them and I didn’t want to miss anything. Thanks!
